Young Musicians Perform in All-State Bands

Five Rockford music students were among 400 statewide to perform in the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association’s All-State Bands. They were selected from more than 2,000 students who auditioned for one of five instrumental ensembles, and who played during the Michigan Music Conference held at DeVos Place, Jan. 22-24.

Earning honorable mention were oboist Ilene Gould and French horn players Thomas Staublin and Eden Stargardt (high school), and trombonist Cameron Shope, clarinetist Allison Werkema and French horn player Haley Yeager (middle school).

For their auditions, each student performed an assigned composition, a series of scales and sight-read a piece of music.
