Real World Education at The Tech Center

Kent Career Technical Center offers real life learning to prepare high school students for careers. The center is part of the Kent Intermediate School District, and is open to 11th and 12th grade students from more then 50 different high schools in Kent County and in the surrounding area. Students earn core credits and school, then come to KCTC for career exploration.

The Hospitality/Culinary program at KCTC teaches students the basics of the career field in four units:

  • Introduction to hospitality
  • Introduction to baking
  • Dining room/short order cooking
  • Quantity cooking

During the second year, students can specialize in either culinary arts or pastry arts. If students come back for a third year, a partnership between KCTC and Ferris State University allows them to earn up to 21 credits toward an Associate’s Degree at Ferris.
