Students ‘Adopt’ a Child, Making Spirits Bright

Christmas was especially meaningful this year for Godwin Heights High School students who worked to make the season brighter for local children.

Students from five science classes at Godwin Heights High School ‘adopted’ children from D.A. Blodgett-St. John’s Home, a Grand Rapids-based child welfare agency that houses children or a variety of reasons.

Each class donated presents and needed items to a different child, ranging in age from 4 to 9, to open on Christmas.

The students wrapped gifts and made cards, and several of them made the delivery to the organization.

“I was completely amazed and blessed to see so many of our students that are ‘in need’ give so much to others,” said Katie Hoffman, who teaches the five science classes. “It was a very powerful experience for all of us.”
