Grant Supports Learning from Nature

Women Who Care of Kent County, a group of women who support nonprofits, recently awarded a grant of $12,000 to Godfrey-Lee Public Schools to support the district Living Learning Lab project.

The grant will be used for professional development, much of it through Blandford Nature Center, and supplies for outdoor learning including nets, binoculars, stumps, fort-building materials and magnifying glasses. It will also cover a community summit on outdoor education, said Carol Lautenbach, assistant superintendent of teaching, learning and accountability.

Over the past two years, the district has been working to develop outdoor-education space on a half-mile stretch along Plaster Creek near the Godfrey-Lee Early Childhood Center.
