A Feast for King’s Kids

It was a feast fit for a king to honor a King, and to benefit those who attend his namesake school.

Thornapple Elementary recently was the site of the King’s Feast, an annual event to benefit the school’s partner school, Grand Rapids Public’s Martin Luther King Jr. Leadership Academy.

Nearly $2,300 was raised, which Academy Principal Tricia Mathes said would go largely toward the purchase of cold-weather clothing for students at the pre-K-8 Southeast Grand Rapids school.

In the 15 or so years Thornapple Elementary Principal Greg Shubel said the partnership has been around, the Forest Hills students have held book, winter coat and coin drives. They also have purchased holiday gifts for students, which parents from both schools wrap together.
