Town hall meetings to discuss facilities plan

Grand Rapids — Scholars, staff, families and community members are invited to participate in the district’s Facilities Master Plan process by weighing in at town hall meetings and through an online survey. The first town hall is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Harrison Park Academy.

The Facilities Master Plan process will chart the course for the future of GRPS school buildings and other facilities. The district is working on plans to close several schools and consolidate programs. The town hall meetings will help the district focus on identifying the best opportunities to invest, enhance, upgrade and revitalize buildings, according to district communications.

Eleven town hall meetings are scheduled through Wednesday, Oct 12. Childcare, refreshments, and interpretation services will be available at each event. Two of the dates will include a dedicated Spanish session that will run at the same time as the English session, though interpretation will be available at all meetings.

There will also be two virtual sessions where participants can join the conversation via Zoom. The Facilities Master Plan survey will be open for input through October 20.
