Wyoming — The district’s new associate superintendent has more than two decades in experience as a finance director
Jamie Carnes, who started July 1, replaces 15-year associate superintendent Matt Lewis, with the main responsibilities of overseeing departments including operations, transportation, safety and security, finance and human resources.
Carnes acknowledged Lewis’ work, saying he appreciates being able to step into a district that’s already in good shape.
“I have big shoes to fill,” he said of Lewis’ tenure.
He also said he’s looking forward to working in the district.
“The thing I was looking for, that I have to have, is a culture fit,” he said, noting that he feels a sense of strong community among WPS staff.
Most recently the director of finance at Ionia ISD from 2016 until June 3, Carnes also held that role in Comstock Park from 2009-2016 and White Cloud Public Schools from 2005-2009. Originally from Frankenmuth, he has a bachelor’s degree in finance from Michigan State University and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Grand Valley State University.
Carnes, of Sparta, said he will spend the bulk of his time on district finances and managing the district’s $63 million budget.
