Kent City — Julie Scott is the new principal at Kent City Elementary. We spoke with her about this new role in advance of the first day of school.
Previous positions in the district: A proud member of the Kent City High School class of 1989, Scott joined Kent City as an administrator last fall as the assistant principal at KCE, and said she feels “very fortunate” to have had that experience.

What are your top two goals for the next 12 months? “Over the past year, I’ve had the opportunity to connect with staff, students and parents to learn what matters most to our community. My top goal is to continue the wonderful traditions at Kent City Elementary while working together to keep our school community growing and thriving. It’s clear from everyone I talk with that they love this school and want to keep making it a great place for kids to grow up.
“Another important goal of mine is to support our after-school clubs and student council, which give students fun and meaningful opportunities to learn beyond the classroom. Empowering our students to build confidence and leadership skills is something I’m truly passionate about.”
What are you most excited about as you take on the role of principal? “I’m most excited to keep building relationships with our students. I love getting to know each of them, watching them learn and grow, and seeing them become the amazing people they’re meant to be. It’s such a joy to see them connect with their teachers and develop a love for learning. One of my favorite things about being a principal is having the opportunity to support our teachers and help them do the important work that makes all of these wonderful things possible.”
