Information night Feb. 4 for prospective preschool parents

Cedar Springs — Cedar Springs parents who are thinking about registering their kids for preschool are invited to attend the upcoming Preschool Parent Information Night from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, at the Early Childhood Center, 204 E. Muskegon St.

The event will highlight some of the options available for 3- and 4-year-old learners, including the district’s tuition preschool program and the Great Start Readiness Program, which is operated in partnership with Kent ISD. There will also be information about the federal Head Start program, said Daniel Brant, the district’s director of early childhood.

“Getting ready for preschool is a pretty big transition for parents and kids,” Brant said. “Our goal is to kind of bridge that relationship, so to speak, through the lens of talking about what options are out there and answering as many questions for parents as we can.”

Parents will learn about the developmental benefits of preschool, eligibility requirements for the different programs and how to register once enrollment opens in late February. Parents will also get to meet Cedar Springs staff, and there will be time for Q and A.

“It’s an opportunity to get to know the staff here at Cedar Springs as it relates to early childhood programming … and to begin the conversation and dialogue around the transition into preschool and into kindergarten,” Brant said.

The information night is specifically geared toward parents, Brant said. In the spring, once families are registered, the district will host an open-house-style event where kids will also be welcome.

Parents with questions can call (616) 696-1204, ext. 5921 to speak to Brant or Andrea Mull, early childhood center secretary.
