East Grand Rapids — Katie McIntosh is the new assistant principal at East Grand Rapids Middle School. SNN gets to know her in this edition of Meet Your Administrators.

How about jobs outside education? McIntosh has held a number of water-related jobs, including sailing instructor, gas dock attendant and lifeguard.
Family life: She and husband, Matt, have three children: Lily, Rieden and Margaret.
- Bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University in early childhood education and elementary education
- Master’s degree from Michigan State University in curriculum and teaching
Hobbies, interests or little-known talents: “I love beaches and boating, and reading is always a priority. A little-known talent would be that I can touch my nose with my tongue.”
What kind of kid were you as a high school student? “I was a hard-working student. I was involved in my high school with sports and volunteering. I enjoyed swimming and spending time with my friends.”
The biggest lesson you have learned from students is… “Listening and learning about each child matters.”
If you could go back to school, which grade would you revisit? “Kindergarten, because everything you need to know you learned from your kindergarten teacher.”
If you walked into your school building to theme music that suits your personality, what would the song be? “‘Can’t Stop the Feeling!’ by Justin Timberlake.”
