Community input sought on facility improvement plans

Lowell — As the district looks ahead to a possible May 7 bond election, the community is invited to share input during a three-part conversation.

The 6:30 p.m. sessions are scheduled:

  • Monday, at Lowell Middle School, 750 Foreman St SE;
  • Tuesday, Oct. 10 at Cherry Creek Elementary School, 12675 Foreman St. SE;
  • Tuesday, Nov. 7 at Lowell Middle School.

Superintendent Nate Fowler said the district will share results from a recent facilities assessment that identifies areas of need within school buildings at the first meeting. That information will be used in the following two meetings to shape plans for building renovations.

The district plans to seek the bond to fund immediate repair and  replacement needs in all buildings (except the newly renovated Lowell Middle School) including doors, windows, floors and lights.

Also proposed is a full renovation of Cherry Creek Elementary and mechanical and HVAC upgrades at the high school, according to Fowler. Cherry Creek was formerly the middle school building, and it needs to be remodeled to better serve the needs of elementary students.

The timing of the election will allow the district to hold its debt levy at 7 mills with no increase to taxpayers, according to district information.

After plans are finalized, the Board of Education will vote on whether to put it on the May ballot.
