‘I really want to be a teacher’

Your Dream is Our Dream: Grace Kloeckner

Grace chats with School News Network about her future plans and what she likes about school

GrandvilleGrace Kloeckner is a fifth-grader at Central Elementary School. School News Network recently talked with her to learn more about her dreams for the future and how her teachers provide inspiration. An excerpt from our conversation is included below.

What is your dream? “I really want to be a teacher.”

Why is this your dream? “Well, I love school, and if I were to teach, to have (those) kids love school too, that would be awesome, because then I would be showing them that school is an awesome resource.”

How long have you wanted to be a teacher? “When I was little, I wanted to be a veterinarian, so those are definitely different jobs. I’d say I started wanting to be a teacher last year. I want to (teach in) the special education room, because my sister has a disability.”

How do you think school and your teachers can help you become a teacher? “My teachers (are) a role model for me, so that I would know how to be a good teacher. And just being in school (as a student) is a good example of the community, of what school could be like.”

What is your favorite thing about school? “I kind of have two favorite things about school: I really love writing, and I also really love reading. I really love writing because it’s like you get to tell your stories. I think part of the reason I love writing so much is because it’s just like reading, (but) it’s like you’re making the story.”
