‘What is your dream?’ Students interview one another

School News Network lesson got students thinking about careers

Kentwood — Bowen Elementary school fourth- and fifth-grade Student Council members will soon be interviewing community members who support their school as a way to build relationships. To prepare, Kent School Services Network community school coordinator Stacey Carson asked Erin Albanese, SNN managing editor and reporter, to share interviewing tips and what it’s like to be a journalist. Albanese had students interview each other about their dreams for the SNN Your Dream is Our Dream series.

Here is what they found out.

What do you want to be when you grow up? “An exterminator.”

Why is this your dream? “Because I like to kill bugs.”

What is your favorite thing about school and why?Writing, because writing is fun.”

What bug would you be scared to kill? Queen killer bee

Why is this your dream? “Because it makes me happy.”

What is your favorite thing about school and why?Reading, because it’s easy for me.”

What soccer player would you have as your role model? “Kylian Mbappé, because he is fast.”

What is your favorite thing about school and why? “Dismissal, because you get to go home.”

Why is this your dream? “Because baseball is fun, and I (have) played it since I was like 4.”

What is your favorite thing about school and why? “PE or gym, because I got the highest score on the Pacer (fitness) test.”

Who is your favorite teacher? “Miss Shaw or Mr. Dykstra”

Why is this your dream? “Because my grandpa needs help fighting for his country.”

What is your favorite thing about school and why?Recess, because I could take a break from learning.”

What is your favorite thing to do in your free time? Play soccer

Why is this your dream? “To help the country.”

What is your favorite thing about school and why?Math, because it is very easy.”

What is one way you would want to help your family? “I would help my family by giving them money.”


Emma Hall wants to be a shoe, clothes and house designer

What do you want to be when you grow up? “A designer of clothes, houses and shoes.”

Why is this your dream? “Whenever I paint my room I always help my dad. I helped my brother design his room and he said I had really good ideas.”

What is your favorite thing about school and why? “I like reading and gym. I like reading because I feel like I am good at it. I like gym because I get to move around and play games.”

If you could design a shoe, how would you design it? “I would take my black Converses and add white flowers on them. For the logo I would put a flower in the middle where the star is and my name on it.”
