Staff supports families with games, hygiene items

Kentwood — Explorer Elementary staff members collected more than 200 family games and hygiene items to donate to The Community Basket, a food pantry at 3178 68th St. SE.

Kent School Services Network coordinator Cheyenne Fernandez led the effort as a service project to support area families.

“I really wanted people in our own community to see our school is supporting them,” she said.

She knew there was a need for hygiene and cleaning items, but wanted to add some fun that can continue throughout the winter months.

“It promotes quality family time and a sense of belonging and sense of security,” she said.

The donated games, puzzles and activity books included the words “Family time is the best time of year” on the tags.
