Library hosts free lecture on MLK’s ‘haunting concern’

Education Everywhere — The Grand Rapids Public Library will host an evening  lecture Monday, Jan. 19 that will describe what Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. feared about the United States.

Dr. Randal Maurice Jelks will present “Integrating into a Burning House: Martin’s Great Fear and the Challenge Before Us” at 6:30 p.m. at the main library, 111 Library St. NE in downtown Grand Rapids.

Jelks, a historian, author and professor, will share one of King’s fears that the U.S. had become “a burning house,” and speak to the challenges facing communities today and what it may take to build a more just future.

The lecture is free, and local bookstore We Are LIT will sell related materials.
