Phys Ed Building Already Paying Off for Students

by Erin Albanese

The high school Physical Education Building -- complete with auxiliary gym, elevated one-eighth mile track and weight room -- is now welcoming athletes and physical education students.

The $6.1 million addition and renovation of the existing gymnasium was part of the $14.1 million bond approved in 2015.

Freshman Martin Martinez jogs on the new trackIt involved filling in an indoor pool for the auxiliary gym space to allow for more athletic activities under the same roof, such as wrestling and volleyball competitions.

"We built this so our kids will have a place to go after school that will make them better athletes," said Athletic Director Robert Hisey.

Bond projects -- which also included new secure entrances, improvements for all school buildings, new school buses and technology -- are now complete.
