New AP Courses Give Students Shot at College Creditsby Erin Albanese
A slate of four new Advanced Placement classes at Kelloggsville High School are giving students a taste of college rigor and the opportunity to earn college credits.
After several years with no Advanced Placement opportunities, the high school this year added AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP Civics and AP Calculus. In the past few years, students have taken AP classes online individually.
"This academic piece is important for our kids," said Principal Kevin Simmons, noting that there was student and parent demand to add the courses.
The plan is to add more AP classes in the future, along with more dual-enrollment college opportunities. Currently, the school offers an English course through Grand Rapids Community College, allowing students to earn early college credits.Submitted on: October 31st 2017
