Meeting the Griffins, Learning to Take a Slap-shot

Kelloggsville Middle School sixth-grade students were treated to an unexpected surprise recently, compliments of Kelloggville Public Schools: a trip to a Grand Rapids Griffins matinee game

All 153 students were given the opportunity to attend, along with a food voucher for the concession stands. Most students had never been to Van Andel Arena, let alone a hockey game, said Assistant Principal Beth Travis.

“The students had a fantastic time and got to have an experience they may never get again,” Travis said.

Students saw themselves dancing on the “big screen” in the arena, learned how to take a slap shot, had photos taken with Griff, the team’s mascot, and, since Kelloggsville’s section was chosen as the Section of the Day, several went home with free T-shirts.
