District appoints interim superintendent

Caledonia — Dirk Weeldreyer will serve as interim superintendent for the 2023-2024 school year

The Board of Education unanimously voted at its June 19 meeting to select Weeldreyer, who officially starts July 1. The appointment follows the departure of Superintendent Dedrick Martin, who accepted the superintendent position at Kalamazoo Regional Educational Service Agency in May.

Weeldreyer served in the same role in 2018 prior to the appointment of Martin. Since retiring from his superintendent position at Fennville Public Schools in 2017, Weeldreyer has served as interim superintendent in various West Michigan school districts, most recently in Godfrey-Lee Public Schools.

Weeldreyer said he is honored to return to Caledonia.

“This district holds a special place in my heart, and I am eager to work alongside the exceptional educators, dedicated staff, and supportive community members,” he said. “Together, we will build upon the foundation of success already established, and continue to provide an exceptional educational experience for our students.”

Board of Education President Marcy White said, “We are delighted to welcome Dirk Weeldreyer back to Caledonia … We have full confidence in his ability to lead and guide our district forward, ensuring the best possible education for our students.”
