Preschool program hosts open houses this week

All districts — Area families with preschool-aged children will have the opportunity to meet Great Start Readiness Program teachers and explore classrooms during the program’s open houses this week Thursday and Friday, April 24 and 25.

Because of increased funding from the state, preschool is free to all families who have children turning 4 by Dec. 1. GSRP is currently enrolling students for fall.

The “Preschool, Here I Come!” open house-style events will happen at locations across Kent County and in the Thornapple Kellogg school district. Some locations are open both April 24 and 25 and others are open for one day. For the locations and details, visit Kent ISD’s “Preschool, Hear I Come!” webpage

“Enrollment in high-quality preschool is one of the best ways to prepare children for success in school and life,” said Kent ISD’s Director of Early Childhood Ashley Karsten. “We are excited to now be able to offer the Great Start Readiness Program preschool to all families tuition-free and hope to enroll many children at our open house events in April.”

Enrollment is open as long as spots in classrooms are available. Programs are a full day, running Monday through Thursday, with some locations offering Monday through Friday.

Families can apply and learn more about openings and schedules by contacting GSRP at 616-447-2409 or visit freepreschoolkent.org.
