Principal named next superintendent in unanimous vote

Godwin Heights — In a 7-0 vote, the Godwin Heights Board of Education selected Chad Conklin to be the district’s next superintendent at its meeting Monday night.

Conklin, who is currently the district’s high school principal, was the only internal candidate to apply and be interviewed by the board. He will start his new position on July 1, replacing current Superintendent Bill Fetterhoff, who announced his retirement earlier this year.

“(Chad Conklin) has had various duties for the district and has excelled in all those opportunities,” said Board President Allen Johnston. “He is an excellent choice to continue to make our district exceptional.”

Conklin started at Godwin Heights in 2000 as an elementary teacher at North Godwin. He was named athletic director in 2009 and also served as the varsity basketball coach. In 2014, he was named the high school principal, and served as the principal of both the middle and high schools from 2021-2023.

“It is truly an honor and a privilege to be selected as the next superintendent of Godwin Heights Public Schools,” Conklin said. “I am humbled by the opportunity to continue serving a district that means so much to me personally and professionally.”

Conklin said he is “honored” to follow Fetterhoff, whose leadership has left a lasting imprint on Godwin Heights and the community. He noted Fetterhoff’s commitment to the diversity of the district, advancing equity for all students and raising the bar for academic achievement.

“I am excited to work alongside the Godwin Heights Board of Education, which has placed its faith in me to lead the Godwin family,” he said. “I look forward to partnering with our administrators, dedicated staff, supportive families and the broader community as we continue moving our district forward with integrity, collaboration and an unwavering belief in the potential of every student we serve.”
