Grand opening set to showcase new sports complex

Kelloggsville — Students and parents will soon have a chance to watch sports in action on the fields of a new sports complex near Kelloggsville Middle School.

A grand opening ceremony for the complex is planned for 4-6 p.m. April 25 at the complex, 4650 South Division Ave. in Kentwood.

Anchoring the grand opening will be the district’s varsity softball and baseball teams playing double-headers against Godwin Heights.

In addition to the games, other activities are planned including face painting, raffles and yard games. Concessions also will be available.

Funding for the complex’s construction came primarily from bonds passed by voters in 2018 and 2021. Work on the complex began in 2020 and was finished last fall. It features all-turf baseball and softball fields, and includes press boxes at each field, and new dugouts and scoreboards.

Drains beneath the fields will channel any rainwater out of the fields, allowing for less maintenance.

Fifth- through eighth-grade football teams practice on the fields as well.
