High school students: design a better future

Applications for Kendall College of Art and Design’s Wege Prize summer workshop now open

Applications for Kendall College of Art and Design’s Wege Prize summer workshop are now open. Eleventh- and twelfth-graders may apply for the July 24-August 4 workshop through June 26.

The workshop offers students the opportunity to work in teams to create compelling solutions — whether a product, service, or business model — to solve “wicked problems” facing the West Michigan region.

A video of 2022 presentations can be found here.

“Students will gain experience across disciplines by learning from local innovators and engaging with their peers,” program leaders said in a statement. Participants will “move through the design process to research and develop solutions that follow the core principles of the circular economy: eliminate waste and pollution, keep products and materials in use, and regenerate our natural systems.”

A $500 stipend, free daily lunches and the chance to create portfolio pieces for college and internship applications are also part of the experience. For more information, visit the program website.
