Grandville — Roger Bearup’s retirement has proven to be short-lived.
The former Grandville Public Schools superintendent, who retired from the district June 30, is joining architecture, engineering and branding firm GMB as an educational planner and strategist, the company has announced.
In his new role, Bearup will work with educators and GMB designers to assist in the strategic plan process, plan and design new learning environments, and help ensure that all learning spaces support student success and the district’s instructional priorities.
“This role allows me to leverage my experience to impact education on a much broader scale, moving from leading one district to supporting many,” Bearup said in a statement. “What excites me most is the opportunity to share best practices, build strong partnerships and help educational communities create environments where every student feels engaged, empowered and inspired to learn.
“Supporting students has always been at the heart of my work, and this next chapter allows me to continue that mission in new and meaningful ways.”
In Grandville, Bearup worked with GMB on several projects, including design and construction of the new Grandville Middle School. The firm, which focuses on education-related projects across the country, has also worked with other Kent County districts including Rockford and Kentwood.
Bearup’s new position is part of GMB’s “ongoing investment in educational expertise,” the firm stated in a press release.
