GRAND RAPIDS — Teachers looking to get in some outdoor learning this fall can still schedule field trips to John Ball Zoo in Grand Rapids.
School groups from Kent County receive free zoo admission due to a millage that was passed in 2016. School groups from outside of Kent County pay a discounted rate of $5 per student, with teachers, bus drivers and a number of chaperones receiving free admission.
Teachers are able to plan a self-guided exploration of the zoo or add on an educational program to their field trip. Classes can bring their own lunches if they wish. A three-week advance notice is required if a school wants their wristbands mailed before their trip.
The zoo closes for the winter season Nov. 22 and will reopen in mid-March.
