Grammy-winning bassist Christian McBride headlines WinterFest

The first-ever jazz festival of its kind in Grand Rapids, St. Cecilia Music Festival’s WinterFest, brings acclaimed Grammy-winning bassist Christian McBride for a three-night jazz celebration.

With a career now blazing into its third decade, McBride’s role as a performer, educator, artistic director and radio host makes him one of the most requested, most recorded and most respected figures in the music world today. These concerts—also featuring bassist Edgar Meyer, singer Cyrille Aimée, and McBride’s quintet Inside Straight—are a perfect fit for music students, music teachers, or anyone who loves experiencing top-notch live music, said St. Cecilia School of Music faculty member Erin DeYoung.

Since its founding 1883, St. Cecilia Music Center has championed music education for all ages and offers programming that fosters a lifelong appreciation for music. “We want kids to love music. Not just as 8-year-olds or eight grades, but as 80-year-olds someday.”

WinterFest will take place Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 24, 25, and 26 at St. Cecilia Music Center’s Royce Auditorium, 24 Ransom Ave. NE, Grand Rapids. Tickets range from $45-$55 and can be purchased here. Special offer for School News Network readers: Use code SNNWF22 at checkout to receive a buy-one-get-one-free deal for tickets to the Christian McBride + Edgar Meyer concert on Thursday, Feb. 24. McBride will also offer a free masterclass for music students and teachers at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26. To learn more about that event and sign up to attend, click here.
