‘Red Hawk Rivals’ episode 4: Percussion

Superintendent Scott Smith gets a lesson in drumming from Cedar Springs high-schoolers

Cedar Springs — The fourth episode of the “Red Hawk Rivals” podcast finds Superintendent Scott Smith taking on the role of student, learning about rudimentary percussion from two high-school musicians.

School News Network is partnering with Cedar Springs High School to share “Red Hawk Rivals” in its Student Voices section. The podcast, which launched this year, matches Smith with different students each episode, using various activities to jump-start conversation. This time around, he learns about drumming from sophomore Ethan Le and junior Jaden Halliwill.

In its first year, “Red Hawk Rivals” was produced, edited and directed by juniors Evan Mattson and Ian VanderLugt.
