Superintendent interviews scheduled for April 28 & 30

Kenowa Hills — The Kenowa Hills Board of Education is moving forward with the selection process for the new district superintendent.

Thirteen educators submitted applications for the position and after the board’s review, four applicants were selected to be interviewed on Tuesday, April 28 and Thursday, April 30.

All interviews will take place at Kenowa Hills Middle School, 3950 Hendershot Ave. NW.

The schedule is as follows:

Tuesday, April 28

  • 5:00 p.m., Mitch Balingit, Collins Elementary principal, Forest Hills Public Schools
  • 6:30 p.m., J. Erich Harmsen, superintendent, Crossroads Charter Academy

Thursday, April 30

  • 5:00 p.m., Randy Barton, assistant superintendent, Mason Public Schools
  • 6:30 p.m., Cherie Horner, director of human resources, Kenowa Hills Public Schools

Board President Erin LaBotz said the board values input from the public and encourages people to attend one or all of the interviews.

“We are appreciative of the quality candidates interested in becoming the next leader for the Kenowa Hills Public Schools,” she said. “We are anxious to learn more about the candidates’ attributes, abilities and skills, as well as what each candidate has to offer our students, staff, parents and community.”

LaBotz also said the board hopes to have a new superintendent begin on July 1, following the retirement of Superintendent Jerry Hopkins on June 30, after 15 years leading the district.

The board has been working with the Michigan Leadership Institute to assist their search efforts. For questions and more information, contact Julie Lanka, executive assistant to the superintendent, by email at jlanka@khps.org.
