District kicks off school year with new, improved website

East Grand Rapids — The district has unveiled a new iteration of its website, updated and retrofitted to better meet the needs of the community.

The redesigned website launched July 30, capping off a roughly nine-month process. That’s according to Michelle Kastanek, executive assistant to the superintendent and board of education, who led the project.

Kastanek said district leaders saw the need for the update because its old website was starting to show its age. They also wanted to improve accessibility.

“It was just time for something fresh — a better way for community members to access information,” Kastanek said. “That was at the heart of the redesign. We want to make information more accessible to community members.”

The new website boasts an improved search function and an accessibility toolbar featuring multiple options for page display. The site is also mobile-friendly, so it directly adapts to smartphone screens.

The main page caters to those who are new to EGRPS or considering enrolling a student. It links to the individual school pages, which are geared toward families of students who are already enrolled, and a page for district news.

Kastanek said the site is a work in progress, and improvements are still being made, but so far the response has been positive.

“I believe the staff and the community are appreciative of it,” she said.
