Students interact with Grammy-winning musicians

Multilingual musical duo 123 Andrés performs at Godfrey-Lee ECC, as part of their community outreach partnership with the Grand Rapids Symphony

Godfrey-Lee — The district’s little Legends transformed into little musicians, thanks to a live performance from multilingual musical duo, 123 Andrés.

All Godfrey-Lee Early Childhood Center students and staff recently gathered in the gym, dancing and singing along with Andrés and Christina, who performed interactive songs in English, Spanish and American Sign Language.

Grammy winners, podcast hosts and children’s books authors, 123 Andrés makes music specifically for young language learners, which made Godfrey Lee’s ECC the perfect destination. Their dual language immersion program is in its second year.

Ahead of performing their “Around the Americas” program alongside the Grand Rapids Symphony on April 18 at the Forest Hills Fine Arts Center, the musicians expressed interest in planning a community performance at a local school.

Grand Rapids Symphony’s Senior Director of Community Engagement and Education, Jennifer Onuigbo, connected with the ECC’s music teacher, Tami Nelson, who helped bring their idea to life.
